Best Pool Service Software: How to Compare Your Options
Every pool service software vendor will tell you they are the best pool service software. This page gives you the six criteria that actually decide it for a route business, and links to our head-to-head comparisons so you can check our claims against the alternatives.
Compare head to head
What to Look for in Pool Service Software
Feature lists are close to useless when every vendor lists the same twenty things. These are the six places where pool service software products genuinely differ, ordered by how much the answer will cost you over a year.
How you are charged
Per technician, per stop, per property, or a flat platform fee. This is the single biggest driver of what you actually pay, and it decides whether growing your team costs you money or makes you money. Work out your bill at the size you expect to be in two years, not the size you are today.
Route and schedule handling
Recurring routes are the whole business. Look for real recurring schedules that generate work orders automatically, drag-and-drop rescheduling, technician assignment that persists week to week, and route sequencing that accounts for drive time rather than just listing stops alphabetically.
What the technician actually gets
The office app is the one you will demo. The technician app is the one that decides whether the system survives contact with your route. Check stop completion, photo capture, service notes, and chemical entry on a phone, in sunlight, with one hand.
Offline behavior
Equipment rooms, backyards, and rural routes lose signal constantly. Ask specifically what happens when a technician completes a stop with no connection. Pool Runs captures readings and dosages to local storage on the device and syncs them when the connection returns.
Billing and accounting sync
Invoicing is where most of the office hours go. Look for invoices generated from completed stops, batch invoicing for a whole week, AutoPay for recurring customers, card and ACH payment, and a genuine two-way accounting sync rather than a CSV export.
Chemical tracking depth
If you bill chemicals at cost, or plan to, the chemical record is a billing document and not just a log. Check that readings and dosages are separate, that you can require them before a stop can be completed, and that chemical usage flows through to the invoice.
How Pool Service Software Pricing Models Differ
Most comparison articles put a monthly figure in a table and stop there. The figure is the least useful part. What matters is which number your bill is tied to, because that decides what happens to your costs as the business changes shape.
Software priced per technician charges you more every time you hire. That is fine when your headcount is static and awkward when you are growing, and it makes seasonal help expensive. Software priced per stop tracks activity, which sounds fair until a heavy summer schedule arrives. Software priced per property tracks the size of your book, which is the number your revenue is tied to as well.
Pool Runs uses the last of these. It is $45 per month with 50 serviced properties included, then $1.75 per property after that, with unlimited users and one plan rather than feature tiers. Billing counts properties actually serviced in the period, so a seasonal account you did not touch does not appear on the invoice. The full breakdown, including a calculator, is on the pricing page.
Work it out at the size you are growing into
Before you compare any two products, write down these four numbers for your business today and for your business in two years. Then price both products against both columns.
- Technicians and office staff who need a login
- Properties you service in a typical month
- Stops completed in a typical week
- Systems that need to receive your invoices
Compare Pool Runs to Skimmer and Pool Brain
Both are good products with real strengths, and both are used by companies that would not be better off switching. Our comparison pages say so where it is true. They are written to help you decide, not to pretend the alternatives are bad.
