We read each price on the company's own pricing page on October 21, 2026. Under 50 pools, Skimmer's Getting Started plan is $49 ($1 a pool, 49 included) but leaves out route optimization, quotes and the schedule. For big books, Skimmer quotes over 1,000 pools on request, and Pool Runs has volume pricing over 200 properties with the same match-and-beat promise. A Pool Runs property counts only in a month it has a completed visit; Skimmer also bills only serviced locations.

  • Pool Runs$307.50

At 200 pools with 3 techs, Pool Brain costs least at $245, $62.50 less than Pool Runs and $155 less than Skimmer.

Between the two, Pool Brain is $155 a month less than Skimmer at this size, or $1,860 a year. We'll match and beat any lower price for the same job.

Rule of thumb

Once you service 50 pools or more, Pool Brain costs less than Skimmer when your book is above about 25 pools plus 33 per tech (58 pools with one tech, 90 with two, 123 with three). Under 50 pools, Skimmer's $49 plan is the smaller bill.

Pool Runs costs less than Pool Brain while the book stays under about 53 pools plus 37 per tech (90 with one tech, 127 with two, 164 with three). Past that, we'll match and beat Pool Brain's price, and over 200 properties we price the plan with you.

Skimmer's AI phone costs $99 a month.

  1. 1Skimmer's Getting Started plan ($49, up to 49 pools) includes its Route Builder. Its pricing page puts the schedule, recurring work orders, route optimization, quotes, required checklist items and productivity reporting on Scaling Up ($98 with 49 pools, then $2 each).
  2. 2Pool Brain says its app works with no signal, even to log in, and its comparison chart says Skimmer needs signal to log in. Skimmer says its app works offline.
  3. 3The Pool Runs app completes stops, readings, doses, checklists and photos offline and syncs when signal returns. Writing a quote needs a connection.
  4. 4Skimmer allows 5 photos a visit on Getting Started and 20 on Scaling Up. Pool Brain's comparison page lists unlimited photos.
  5. 5Pool Runs team alerts go out by email or push for about 25 events, such as skipped visits, approved quotes, paid invoices, signed documents and missed calls, and you choose who gets each one. A fully custom alert is a workflow in the Engage add-on ($50).
  6. 6Pool Brain's comparison page lists a Technician Time Report and says starting a job keeps start and finish times accurate. We found no clock in or out on its site.
  7. 7Pool Brain deducts chemicals from truck stock as techs dose (June 27, 2026). Skimmer has shopping lists, Heritage ordering (July 2026) and equipment management (August 2026), but we found no stock counts.
  8. 8Skimmer logs readings and doses on every plan, and its Orenda LSI and dosing calculator comes with Scaling Up.
  9. 9Pool Brain fills in doses from range targets or from LSI steps you set, with an optional pH floor (update of May 17, 2026), and its chart marks Skimmer's Orenda calculator “no auto-dosing”.
  10. 10Pool Brain added Pentair IntelliFlo3 pump data (flow, RPM, PSI, alarms) on August 6, 2026.
  11. 11Pool Brain customers approve or decline quotes in its portal, and we found no e-signature. Skimmer customers approve a quote in the browser by typing their name.
  12. 12Pool Brain lets you attach PDF documents to quotes and quote line items, per its comparison page. We found no e-signature.
  13. 13Pool Runs builds service agreements, estimates, change orders and waivers from templates or your own PDF, sends them by email (or text with Communications) or has them signed on the tech's phone, and keeps the signed PDF with an audit trail.
  14. 14Pool Brain added Stripe, with Apple Pay and Google Pay, on September 28, 2026, and says you can keep your current processor. Card and ACH processors charge their own fees at all three.
  15. 15Skimmer's help center says the sync only sends data from Skimmer to QuickBooks Online; changes made in QuickBooks don't come back.
  16. 16Photograph a supply-house receipt and AI reads the items and prices into that truck's stock, and it can post the purchase to QuickBooks. The fuel log tracks fill-ups for each truck.
  17. 17Pool Brain's “On the Way” text launched in May 2024, and we found nothing on replies. Skimmer's help center says calls and texts to its service-text number get a message that it doesn't accept them, and its texts cost 2.9¢ each on Getting Started.
  18. 18Two-way texting in the Pool Runs shared inbox needs both add-ons: Communications for the number and texts, Engage for the inbox, $80 together.
  19. 19Skimmer calls $99 its launch price for AI Phone, which answers inbound calls and recognizes existing customers. The Pool Runs voice agent answers, looks up the caller's account and drafts a work order with the caller's preferred date for the office to confirm, without booking the visit itself.
  20. 20Communications ($50) includes your business number, calls in the browser and the iPhone and Android app, ring groups, a phone menu, voicemail with transcription, free number porting and the AI voice agent, with 400 voice minutes a month.
  21. 21Engage workflows start from one of 24 triggers, such as a form submitted, a quote accepted or an invoice paid, and can send a text or email, alert your team, request a review or create a task or deal. Ten starter recipes come with it, and text steps need a Communications number.
  22. 22Fresh Movers searches a ZIP code for recently sold homes with a pool, with the sale details and the owner's name, and lead routes turn them into a door-knocking route in the app. Each matched home uses 3 of the lead credits that come with the core plan.
  23. 23Skimmer opened AI Insights to all customers on July 20, 2026. Its help center still calls it early access.
  24. 24Pool Brain's comparison page labels its chlorine-tab auto-dosing “powered by AI”, the only AI feature we found on its site.
  25. 25Skimmer's free first month on Scaling Up is a limited-time promotion, with a separate 30-day refund guarantee.
  26. 26Pool Brain's site links to a help center and chat, but we found no support phone line or hours.

Where each one wins

Pool Brain beats Skimmer on full routes and water chemistry.

Skimmer wins on small books, customer financing and phone support. Pool Runs wins one question by answering the calls you can't take.

Skimmer wins

I run under 50 pools. Which costs less?

Skimmer's Getting Started plan is $49 a month for up to 49 pools with unlimited users, against $115 for Pool Brain with one tech. The catch is that Getting Started leaves out route optimization, quotes, the schedule and required checklist items, which start on Scaling Up at $98.

Pool Runs$45 covers 50 properties, with route optimization and quotes in the plan.
Pool Brain wins

Is route optimization on the entry plan?

Pool Brain puts it on its only plan, where one tap reorders the day's stops on the web or in the tech app. Skimmer starts it on Scaling Up at $98 a month.

Pool RunsThe $45 core plan includes it and reorders a day's stops for a shorter drive.
Pool Brain wins

What do three or four techs cost?

Pool Brain's own example, 3 techs on 80 pools each, costs $245 a month there and $480 on Skimmer's Scaling Up. A fourth tech with 80 more pools adds $65 at Pool Brain and $160 at Skimmer. A hire who only splits existing routes adds nothing at Skimmer.

Pool RunsAt 240 pools Pool Runs has volume pricing, and techs are free, so a new hire adds no login fee. We'll match and beat any lower price for the same job.
Pool Brain wins

Does QuickBooks sync both ways?

Pool Brain syncs customers, invoices, payments, refunds and products with QuickBooks Online in both directions. Skimmer's help center says its sync only sends data from Skimmer to QuickBooks, so an edit your bookkeeper makes in QuickBooks doesn't come back.

Pool RunsPool Runs has a two-way sync with QuickBooks Online as well, covering customers, invoices, payments and items.
Pool Brain wins

Which handles water chemistry better?

Pool Brain fills in the dose for the tech from Orenda LSI steps or range targets, can hold a pH floor, and takes readings from LaMotte Spin Touch and WaterGuru and pump data from Pentair IntelliFlo3. Skimmer has the Orenda LSI and dosing calculator and a LaMotte integration on Scaling Up.

Pool RunsEvery plan has an LSI calculator with dose suggestions for the tech to enter, and readings you can require before a stop can close.
Skimmer wins

Can my customers finance a big repair?

Skimmer offers Sunbit consumer financing on Scaling Up, so a homeowner can spread a heater or pump replacement over time. We found no customer financing on Pool Brain's site.

Pool RunsPool Runs doesn't offer customer financing.
Skimmer wins

Can I call a person when something breaks?

Skimmer lists live phone support on Scaling Up, along with a chatbot and email, and publishes a support number. Pool Brain's site points to its help center and chat, and we found no support phone line or hours.

Pool RunsPool Runs offers phone and email support on every plan, and our team handles setup when you start.
Pool Runs wins

Who answers the phone while you're in a backyard?

The Pool Runs AI voice agent comes in the $50 Communications add-on, along with your number, 1,000 texts and 400 voice minutes a month. It recognizes the caller, looks up the account and drafts a work order with the caller's preferred date for the office to confirm, without booking the visit itself.

Skimmer's AI Phone, $99 a month at its launch price, answers inbound calls, recognizes existing customers and routes urgent calls to you. We found no AI phone on Pool Brain's site.

Questions about Pool Brain and Skimmer

Is Pool Brain cheaper than Skimmer?

Usually it is once you pass 50 pools, since Pool Brain is $50 plus $65 a tech and Skimmer's Scaling Up is $98 plus $2 a pool past 49. At our five sizes Pool Brain is $115 against $120 at 60 pools with one tech, $245 against $400 at 200 pools with three, and $570 against $1,000 at 500 pools with eight. Under 50 pools, Skimmer's $49 Getting Started plan costs less, though it leaves out route optimization and quotes.

How much does Skimmer cost per pool?

Getting Started is $1 a pool with a $49 minimum for up to 49 pools, and Scaling Up is $98 a month with 49 pools included, then $2 for each pool past 49, for 50 to 1,000 pools. Only pools serviced that month are billed, and Skimmer prices over 1,000 pools on request. AI Phone ($99), the Marketing Suite ($150) and Bookkeeping (from $198) are extra.

How much does Pool Brain cost?

It depends on pools per tech, because Pool Runs is $45 with 50 properties, then $1.75 a property up to 200, with techs free. Pool Runs costs less up to about 90 pools with one tech or 127 with two. At 200 pools with three techs, Pool Brain lists $245 against our $307.50, and over 200 properties Pool Runs has volume pricing. We'll match and beat any lower price for the same job.

Which is better for water chemistry?

Pool Brain goes furthest, filling in doses from Orenda LSI steps or range targets, holding a pH floor, and taking LaMotte Spin Touch and WaterGuru readings plus Pentair IntelliFlo3 pump data. Skimmer has the Orenda LSI and dosing calculator and LaMotte on Scaling Up. Pool Runs has an LSI calculator with dose suggestions on every plan.

The Pool Runs app completes stops, readings, doses, checklists and photos offline, and writing a quote needs a connection.
