1Skimmer's Getting Started plan ($1 a location, $49 minimum) is for 0 to 49 pools and leaves out route optimization, quotes, job management, the Schedule, recurring work orders and required checklist items. Scaling Up is $98 with 49 locations, then $2 each, for 50 to 1,000 pools.
2The Pool Runs app completes stops, readings, dosages, checklists, photos and videos with no signal and syncs them when it reconnects, though writing a quote needs a connection.
3Skimmer's own Q&A page says techs can finish stops, log readings, tick off checklist items and take photos with no connection, and the data uploads when they reconnect.
4Skimmer allows 5 photos a visit and 20 a location on Getting Started, 20 and 40 on Scaling Up, 30 and 50 on Enterprise.
5In Pool Runs a checklist item can be required or photo-required, and a reading can be required on every visit or after a set number of visits without one. The app won't complete the stop until they're done.
6In Pool Runs a work order type can repeat, for example a filter clean every 3 months, and comes back due for the office to schedule.
7Skimmer's August 2026 release notes describe equipment records with Details, History and Warranty tabs, with warranty end dates worked out from the coverage you pick, though its pricing page doesn't name a plan.
8Card and ACH payments run through Stripe, which charges its own processing fees.
9Skimmer customers open a quote from an email and approve it by typing their name, and techs can capture a signature in the app, on the Scaling Up and Enterprise plans. We found no service agreements or other documents to sign on its site.
10Pool Runs documents cover service agreements, estimates, change orders and waivers, built from templates or your own PDFs. Send them by email or have the customer sign on the tech's phone, and you get a signed PDF with an audit trail.
11Pool Runs has a two-way sync with QuickBooks Online that covers customers, invoices, payments and items, so payments recorded in QuickBooks come back into Pool Runs.
12Skimmer's QuickBooks Online FAQ, updated September 8, 2026, says its integration only sends data from Skimmer to QuickBooks, and changes made in QuickBooks don't update Skimmer.
13Skimmer's September 2026 roundup describes customers rating each visit from the service email, with private ratings per stop and per tech, without naming a plan.
14Skimmer has shopping lists, a readings report and Heritage ordering, but we found no stock tracking on its site.
15Skimmer lists its Heritage integration on every plan, and Heritage ordering (search, quote, order and track) launched July 21, 2026.
16Skimmer lists financial reporting on every plan. Its Bookkeeping add-on, from $198 a month, has a bookkeeper send a monthly P&L, balance sheet and cash flow.
17Skimmer's help center says its app times each stop from when the tech opens it until they tap Finish. We found no clock in or out on its site.
18Pool Runs team alerts cover about 25 events, such as a skipped visit, an approved quote, a paid invoice, a signed document or a missed call, and you pick who gets each one by email or push. A fully custom alert is a workflow, which is in Engage.
19Skimmer lists Office Alerts on every plan, which flag operational exceptions in the app and by email.
20Two-way texting in the Pool Runs shared inbox needs both add-ons: Communications for the number and texts, Engage for the inbox. Communications alone sends texts such as on-the-way notes.
21Skimmer's help center says service texts come from a single Skimmer number that doesn't accept calls or texts, and that Marketing Suite SMS is one-way.
22Communications gives you a business number with calls in the browser and the iPhone and Android app, ring groups, a phone menu, voicemail with transcription and number porting, plus the AI voice agent and 400 voice minutes a month.
23Engage workflows start from 24 triggers, such as a form submitted, an invoice paid or a quote accepted, and can send texts and emails, alert staff, request reviews and create tasks, with 10 starter recipes. Steps that text, review requests included, need Communications too, $80 for both.
24Fresh Movers finds homes with a pool that sold in the last 7 to 180 days in a ZIP code you search, with the sale details and the new owner's name and mailing address, and lead routes turn them into a door-knocking route in the app. Pool discovery finds backyard pools from satellite imagery and homeowner lookup finds likely contacts, both on the plan's monthly credits.
25The Pool Runs voice agent answers calls, recognises the caller, looks up the account, takes messages and drafts a work order for the office to confirm, without booking appointments itself. Communications includes 1,000 texts and 400 voice minutes.
26Skimmer calls $99 a month its launch price, and its page describes answering inbound calls on your existing number, recognising customers, transfer rules and capturing leads into work orders, with no mention of texting.
27Skimmer released AI Insights to all customers on July 20, 2026. It reads your data without changing it, and leaves out stored cards and gate codes.
28Photograph or upload a supply-house receipt and AI reads the vendor, items, quantities and prices for you to check and add to a truck's or warehouse's stock. In the US it can also post the purchase to QuickBooks with the image attached.
29The Pool Runs free trial covers the core plan. The Communications and Engage add-ons aren't part of it.
Read on each company's pricing, feature and help pages on October 21, 2026 at monthly billing. “Not on their site” means we found no mention of it, though it may still exist. Prices and plans change, so check each site before you decide.
Where each one wins
Pool Runs wins on routing, QuickBooks and the phone.
Skimmer's Scaling Up plan wins on water chemistry and extras like Sunbit financing. Working with no signal and asking the software about your own numbers come out even. Each answer comes from Skimmer's own pricing and help pages and from the Pool Runs product as it ships today.

Does QuickBooks sync both ways?
Skimmer's QuickBooks Online FAQ says its integration only sends data from Skimmer to QuickBooks, so a check your bookkeeper records in QuickBooks doesn't update Skimmer.
Pool Runs has a two-way sync with QuickBooks Online that covers customers, invoices, payments and items, so an invoice paid by check in QuickBooks is marked paid in Pool Runs too.

Is route optimization on the base plan?
Skimmer's Getting Started plan has the Route Builder without optimization, which sits on Scaling Up at $98 and $2 a pool. Pool Runs puts it in the $45 core plan to reorder a day's stops for a shorter drive.
Pool Runs wins
Who answers the phone after hours?
Skimmer's AI Phone is $99 at its launch price and answers inbound calls on your current number. The Pool Runs voice agent comes in the $50 Communications add-on with a number, 1,000 texts and 400 minutes, and it looks up the caller's account and drafts a work order for the office to confirm without booking the visit.
Skimmer wins on Scaling Up
Which handles water chemistry better?
On Scaling Up, Skimmer has the Orenda LSI and dosing calculator plus a LaMotte integration for test results. Pool Runs works out LSI and dose suggestions for each pool's gallons on its core plan and can require a reading before a stop closes, though it has no test-kit integration. Under 50 pools it flips, since Getting Started has no LSI calculator.
Skimmer wins
Does Skimmer have features Pool Runs doesn't?
A few. Scaling Up adds Sunbit financing and LaMotte, and Skimmer also sells a bookkeeping service from $198, tracks equipment warranty dates, orders from Heritage and lets customers rate each visit. Pool Runs has its own that Skimmer's site doesn't list, such as AI receipt scanning, equipment label scanning, service videos, documents to sign and a business phone line.

Which works with no signal?
Both apps work offline, and Skimmer's own Q&A says techs can finish stops, log readings, tick off checklist items and take photos with everything uploading on reconnect. The Pool Runs app does the same for stops, readings, dosages, checklists, photos and videos, though writing a quote needs a connection.
Even
Can I ask it about my own numbers?
Skimmer's AI Insights, released to all customers in July 2026, answers plain-language questions about customers, routes, chemicals and invoices without changing any data, and Pool Runs includes an assistant on its core plan that answers from your own records.
Why owners switch
Switching fixes four things Skimmer users run into.
Each limit comes from Skimmer's own pricing and help pages or a public review, with the link and the date. The Pool Runs side is what the product does today.
1
The rate doubles at 50 pools
Getting Started is $1 a pool up to 49. Past that, Skimmer moves you to Scaling Up at $98 a month plus $2 a pool. A Capterra reviewer of more than two years named this as their drawback.
In Pool Runs$45 covers 50 pools and each one after that is $1.75 on the same plan, with volume pricing past 200.
2
QuickBooks only hears one way
Skimmer's QuickBooks Online FAQ says data flows from Skimmer to QuickBooks only. A payment your bookkeeper records in QuickBooks won't show in Skimmer.
In Pool RunsA two-way sync with QuickBooks Online comes with the $45 plan.
3
Customers can't text back
Service texts come from one shared Skimmer number that doesn't accept replies, and Marketing Suite texts are one-way. A Capterra reviewer in August 2026 asked for a way to text clients from the app.
In Pool RunsCustomers text your own business number, and replies land in a shared inbox with the Communications and Engage add-ons, $80 a month together.
4
The AI phone is $99 on its own
Skimmer's AI Phone answers inbound calls for $99 a month at its launch price, on top of the plan.
In Pool RunsThe AI voice agent is in the $50 Communications add-on with your own number and 400 minutes, and it can draft a work order for the office to confirm.

Questions
Questions about Skimmer's cost
How much does Skimmer cost in 2026?
Of Skimmer's three plans, Getting Started is $49 a month for up to 49 pools at $1 a serviced location, and Scaling Up is $98 a month with 49 locations included, then $2 each, for 50 to 1,000 pools. Enterprise, for more than 1,000 pools, is priced by its sales team. AI Phone ($99 a month), the Marketing Suite ($150) and Bookkeeping (from $198) cost extra.
How much does Skimmer cost per pool?
It's $1 a serviced location on Getting Started and $2 on Scaling Up. Because Scaling Up's $98 covers the first 49, it works out to exactly $2 for every pool you service. A location is billed once a month however many visits or bodies of water it has, and locations you don't service that month aren't billed. Pool Runs works the same way at $1.75 a property past the first 50, up to 200 properties.
Is Pool Runs cheaper than Skimmer?
Yes, at every size up to 200 pools at list price, with $167.50 against $240 at 120 pools and $307.50 against $400 at 200. Under 50 pools it's $45 against Skimmer's $49 Getting Started plan, and the $45 includes the route optimization and quotes that Getting Started leaves out. Over 200 properties, we price the plan with you, and the match-and-beat promise still applies. Send us a published price or an invoice from another pool service software company for the same job, and Pool Runs will match it and beat it.
What does Skimmer's Getting Started plan leave out?
Route optimization, quotes and estimates, job management, the Schedule, recurring work orders, required checklist items, the LSI and dosing calculator, LaMotte, Sunbit financing, productivity reporting, broadcast emails and live phone support are all on Scaling Up. Getting Started also pays $0.029 for each service text and allows 5 photos a visit.
Does Skimmer sync with QuickBooks both ways?
Skimmer's QuickBooks Online FAQ, updated September 8, 2026, says data goes from Skimmer to QuickBooks only, so changes made in QuickBooks don't update Skimmer. Pool Runs has a two-way sync with QuickBooks Online that covers customers, invoices, payments and items, so payments your bookkeeper records in QuickBooks come back into Pool Runs.
How does Skimmer's AI Phone compare with the Pool Runs voice agent?
Skimmer's AI Phone is $99 a month at its launch price and answers inbound calls on your existing number. The Pool Runs voice agent comes in the $50 Communications add-on, which also includes a business number with calls on the web and in the app, voicemail with transcription, 1,000 texts and 400 voice minutes. It recognises the caller, looks up the account and drafts a work order for your office to confirm, without booking appointments itself.
Does Skimmer have features Pool Runs doesn't?
A few. Scaling Up adds Sunbit consumer financing and a LaMotte integration, and Skimmer also sells a bookkeeping service from $198, tracks equipment warranty dates, orders from Heritage and lets customers rate each visit. Since August 2026 it has pool construction software too. Pool Runs has features Skimmer's site doesn't list, such as AI receipt scanning, equipment label scanning, service videos, documents with e-signature, a business phone line with voicemail, and Fresh Movers for recently sold homes with pools.
Can I move from Skimmer to Pool Runs?
Yes, once you send us an export, our team moves your customers, properties, bodies of water, equipment and recurring schedules. You review everything before go-live, and you can keep Skimmer running until you're happy with the switch.
